history

Willin' was originally formed by Joe Kreis and Tim Coyle in 1990, after the two had performed as a duo for several months under various names. The two met in church, though 'prison' makes a more plausible story.

"Electric Willin'" had several incarnations and variations between 1990 and early 1992, ultimately settling in with Matt Robinson on drums, Dan Liebtag on bass, and later adding Marty Coady on percussion. We also met Marty in church (likely story).

The biggest changeover happened in the fall of 1992, when Willin' was reformulated as an experimental acoustic band. Joe Kreis was still on guitar/vocals, Tim Coyle on mandolin/guitar/vocals, Marty Coady remained on percussion, Noel Sayre was added on the fiddle, Josh Bender-Dubiel on guitar/banjo/vocals, and Pat McAvoy on bass. This is the lineup that appeared on the first several tracks of their one release, "Time Seems So Long."

Joe Crum replaced Pat on string bass in 1993, also appearing on "Time Seems So Long", and Chris Mazur sat in on percussion during this period, and later joined the band on drum kit. This lineup appears on the last few studio recordings.

The bands last performances were on/around Halloween of 1995, including the mainstage on Court Street and a late set at Casa Cantina.
